Third-party AI processing

When you process a document through PaperAI, its content is sent to the AI model provider you (or your Flow) selected. PaperAI integrates models from the following providers:

  • Anthropic (Claude)
  • OpenAI (GPT-4o and others)
  • Google (Gemini)
  • Mistral
  • Meta (Llama)
  • xAI (Grok)
  • DeepSeek
  • Cohere

Document content is transmitted to the selected provider's API for inference only. PaperAI does not use your documents to train AI models, and our contracts with providers prohibit the use of customer data for model training. Each provider has its own data handling and retention policies, and we encourage you to review their terms. You control which provider processes your data by selecting a model.

Document data handling

Documents uploaded to PaperAI are encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. During AI processing, document content is decrypted and sent to the selected third-party provider's API over an encrypted connection. PaperAI does not retain document content after you delete it from your account, subject to standard backup retention periods. Our multi-tenant architecture isolates data between organizations — queries are scoped to your organization and cannot access another organization's documents.

Sharing and disclosure

We may share information with:

  • Infrastructure and service providers that help us operate PaperAI.
  • Professional advisors and legal authorities when required by law.
  • Parties involved in a business transaction such as merger or acquisition.

We do not sell personal information.

Data retention

We retain data for as long as needed to provide services, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect information.
